Outlook’s spam filters went down and people aren’t happy

Microsoft has fixed a problem with its spam filters which saw users of Outlook and Hotmail flooded with spam emails.

The trouble seems to have started Tuesday evening with some users reporting receiving more than 100 spam emails in a matter of hours.

Microsoft reported via its service page that “some users may be receiving excessive spam mail”, before updating the page to say that two fixes had been put in place to deal with the issue.

Naturally, Twitter users were quick to register their outrage, as some pleaded for the spam onslaught to stop.

Others called for the return of Microsoft’s Hotmail service:

And some opted for a more terse approach:

Microsoft explained the two fixes it implemented: “One will provide short term relief preventing spam reaching your inbox.

“The second will be a longer term fix which should stop spam reaching our infrastructure.”

There’s been no word from the company on what caused the issue as yet.
