OnePlus has released a fix for the OnePlus 6 bootloader vulnerability
Earlier this week, it emerged that the one-month-old OnePlus 6 has a serious flaw that leaves the bootloader open to being modified without first having to be unlocked, leaving data stored on the handset vulnerable to hackers – and now OnePlus, as promised, has come up with a solution to the problem.
The resolution comes in the form of a software update that started making the rounds on June 15, bundling a patch for the bootloader problem, as well as a number of bug fixes, the most notable of which addresses an issue that prevents Do Not Disturb Mode (DND) from engaging when operating on a schedule.
The bootloader bug, for those who missed our coverage, is frightening because it leaves your OnePlus 6 defenseless against wired attacks, letting hackers execute a command that grants them access to all of your data (contacts, media, messages, etc.) – even if you have a PIN or another method of authentication in place.
Here’s the statement OnePlus issued on the matter earlier this week:
We take security seriously at OnePlus. We are in contact with the security researcher, and a software update will be rolling out shortly.
