New OnePlus 5T model might be launching as soon as January 2018
It seems OnePlus has no intention of slowing its blistering smartphone release pace, with a new OnePlus 5T model now potentially on the horizon.
Earlier this week, OnePlus published a teaser video on YouTube that showed people feeling a mysterious object inside a box. The participants were asked to describe what they felt, with many making reference to a stone or sandstone surface.
“We took to the streets of London to recapture an unforgettable feeling,” the video descriptgion reads. “Can you guess what’s coming?”
The video then closes with with caption: “Unbox the mystery. January 2018.”
Longtime OnePlus fans will remember that the original OnePlus One smartphone had a textured sandstone rear – a far cry from the metallic backs we’re so familiar with today.
The working theory, then, is that OnePlus is working on a new sandstone version of the OnePlus 5T, which would give the phone a grippier feel. Better still, the video suggests that this model could be available – or at the very least, revealed – as soon as January 2018.
It’s worth noting that OnePlus already provides a sandstone-style case for the OnePlus 5T, so the video certainly isn’t referencing a new case – because that already exists. However, OnePlus hasn’t formally confirmed a new sandstone version of the OnePlus 5T just yet, so we’ll have to take this theory with due caution for now.
The OnePlus 5T was announced on November 16 this year, and went on sale five days later. The handset features a large 6.01-inch Full HD display, 6GB or 8GB of RAM, 64GB or 128GB of storage, and Qualcomm’s powerful Snapdragon 835 chip.
It starts at £449 for the base model, rising to the £499 for the top-spec variant.
