Netflix has updated its iOS app to support 1080p playback for the iPhone 6 Plus.
Since the iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6 launched in September, app developers have been working hard to launch updates that capitalise on the new, larger displays.
Of course, that’s especially necessary for the iPhone 6 Plus. Not only is its screen much larger than previous iPhones at 5.5-inches, but it’s also significantly sharper.
Thanks to a 1920 x 1080 resolution, the larger iPhone can handle 1080p content natively, which no other iPhone can manage. All of which meant that Netflix – one of the most popular video-playing apps on the App Store – was left looking more than a little grainy on Apple’s top-of-the-range smartphone.
Fortunately, Netflix has finally updated its iOS app to support 1080p playback on the iPhone 6 Plus.
So why the delay? That may be attributable to the fact that Netflix has done more than just bump up the video playback to 1080p. It’s also optimised the Netflix app UI to show more content on the iPhone 6 Plus.
“You’ll see more titles on screen to choose from, bigger imagery, and improved performance throughout,” reads a Netflix blog post on the matter.
Netflix version 7.0 is available to download now from the App Store, with a Netflix 1080p subscription running to £6.99 per month.
