Motorola X Phone render and specs leaked

A fresh render of the forthcoming Motorola X Phone has emerged, along with some specifications.

Both stem from an anonymous tipster – said to be “a person close to the team behind the X Phone” – who supplied the information to GSM Arena.

While we’re not entirely certain how valid they are, as they clash with some of the previously rumoured specs we’ve heard and reported about. They make for interesting viewing and reading nonetheless.

For example, the suggestion that the Motorola X Phone will contain a 4.7-inch 1280 x 768 resolution display would create a few murmurs among Android fans. Why? Because at 720p it would be a generation behind the 1080p displays appearing in the likes of the HTC One, the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Sony Xperia Z.

In contrast to this curiously underwhelming screen, the leaked Motorola X Phone specs suggest that the phone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU. This would be the first appearance for the chip, and would be a step forward from the Snapdragon 600 CPU found in the HTC One and the Samsung Galaxy S4.

Pairing a cutting edge processor with dated screen tech would seem a little odd to us, but there you go.

Motorola X Phone OS and Battery
Also unexpected is the report that the Motorola X Phone will run on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. If the device is to make a showing at Google I/O, we would have expected it to run a brand new version of the Android OS.

In keeping with Motorola’s recent tendencies toward long-lasting devices, the Motorola X Phone will apparently come with a whopping 4,000mAh battery. That’s almost twice the capacity of the HTC One’s 2,300mAh unit.

The Motorola X Phone will be as tough as it is long-lasting, according to the report. IP57 certification will see to that, ensuring that it’s water resistant in up to a meter of water for up to 30 minutes, as well as being protected from dust ingress. This is supported by Gorilla Glass 3 on the display.

Many feel that the so-called Motorola X Phone will make an appearance at Google I/O on May 15. If that’s the case, you can expect to see more details such as this emerging over the coming month and a half.
