Moto Z modular phone looks nailed on for June 9 reveal

Motorola looks set to announce a brand new modular smartphone, the Moto Z, at a June 9 launch event.
Last week we heard well-sourced reports that Motorola was looking to scrap the well-regarded Moto X brand in favour of a new premium Moto Z range.
Now that report appears to have been confirmed with the news that Motorola has registered a trademark for the Moto Z name in the US (via Droid-life).
In recent days, hellomotoHK has posted what appears to be an invite to a launch event for Motorola’s new flagship phone on June 9. This was already widely expected, as it coincides with the date of Lenovo Tech World 2016 (and Lenovo, of course, owns Motorola). Still, it’s good to get confirmation.

The invite also offers a glimpse of the Moto Z’s new design, complete with a distinctive circular camera module. Again, this has been in seen in previous leaks, but it acts as further confirmation of their authenticity.
Earlier in May we learned that the new premium Moto, which we now know to be the Moto Z, would feature a modular design, with replaceable back plates known as ‘Amps.’ These are expected to include a Pico projector, an optical zoom lens, stereo speakers and more.
