Moto X leak: Is that a Moto 360 strapped to the back?

UPDATE: Separate images appear to show the front and side of the new Moto X, too.

In addition to the leaked photo below, the new Moto X appears to have cropped up in images posted by Google+ user hellomotoHK. These not only provide confirmation of that unusual camera array, but grant a good look at the rest of the device.

We get a better look at that all-metal body. It reminds us a little of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and, yes, the iPhone 6S, with those rounded edges.

The front of the phone, meanwhile, shows an unusual square home button, which apparently doubles for a fingerprint sensor.

Also on display is an apparently customisable rear. Is there some kind of glass or plastic covering the metal back of the new Moto X? This could be how the company intends to maintain its distinctive Moto Maker customisation service.

ORIGINAL STORY: Motorola’s 2016 Moto X is expected to arrive any day now, but the latest leak has everyone a little confused.

Prolific – and generally reliable – leaker Evan Blass has posted an image of what he claims to be a “100% real” version of the new Moto X. But what’s odd is that the phone’s rear-facing camera looks just like a miniature version of Motorola’s Moto 360 smartwatch, flat-tyre and all.

Normally, this sort of image would have us groping for the nearest pinch of salt, but Blass is known for his excellent track record of mobile device leaks.

The Moto X could arrive at Motorola’s May 17 event, although most speculation points to that date being used to launch the new Moto G. In any case, we’d expect to see the phone arriving within the next couple of months.

It’s rumoured that the new Moto X will feature an all-metal build, Qualcomm’s top-end Snapdragon 820 processor, and 4GB of RAM. From this latest leak, we’d also guess that the camera will be reasonably hefty.
