Ahead of the Xbox One release date, Microsoft has confirmed that it will continue to support the Xbox 360 console for a further three years.
Despite the Xbox One being set to go head-to-head with the PS4 this November in the battle of the next-gen consoles, Microsoft has now stated that the continue support of the Xbox 360 remains one of its top priorities, with the aging gamer to continue until at least 2017.
“
Speaking at the Citi Global Technology conference he added: “We are going to continue to invest in Xbox 360 and the two devices can work in concert.”
What’s more, Mehdi has been quick to assure Xbox 360 owners not planning on making the jump to the One just yet that they will not be short of new content after the next-gen gamer arrives.
“It isn’t just like the day we ship Xbox One, Xbox 360 won’t work,” he said. “We will continue to support it. In fact, we are going to ship over 100 new games on Xbox 360, so you will still be able to play your games, just not on the same exact box.”
Earlier this year publisher EA offered its own reassurances to current-gen gamers, also confirming that it will continue to support both the Xbox 360 and PS3 until 2017.
“EA will continue to publish games for current-generation consoles through at least 2017,” EA CFO Blake Jorgensen stated in an interview.
