Microsoft to lift lid on Windows 10 Consumer Preview at January event

Microsoft is going to unveil its Windows 10 Consumer Preview at an event in January, according to new reports.

The Verge has revealed that the Redmond-based firm will use the occasion to go in-depth on the consumer features of Windows 10.

This means we’ll get a much more detailed look at the upcoming changes set to land with Microsoft’s first wholeheartedly platform-unified operating system.

According to ‘sources familiar with the company’s plans’, the event will take place in late January, and will also see the launch of the Windows 10 Consumer Preview.

Microsoft is due to attend CES, the Las Vegas tech tradeshow that runs from the 5th to the 9th, but it’s assured that the Windows 10 event will be entirely separate.

The firm first showed off its brand new operating system earlier this year, announced that it would make use of the same operating system across the majority of its device platforms.

This means a single unified system that runs with the same app store on smartphones, tablets, laptops and desktop PCs alike.

Currently the only way to get access to the software is by downloading the Technical Preview, a fairly buggy but regularly updated beta test.

The Consumer Preview should be a lot closer to the final product, but it’s still a fair way off from the ultimate global rollout.
