Questions have arisen as to Apple’s future monitor plans after it confirmed that it was no longer making the Thunderbolt Display.
For the past five years Apple has offered its Thunderbolt Display as a means of keeping your system all-Apple. However, the company has just announced that it will no longer be making any more of its longrunning monitor.
“We’re discontinuing the Apple Thunderbolt Display,” an Apple spokesperson confirmed to TechCrunch. “It will be available through Apple.com, Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorised Resellers while supplies last.”
What’s most notable here is that Apple has announced the end of its one and only monitor product. It has no replacement in the pipeline – at least none that we know of.
Apple’s recommendation for those seeking a new monitor to accompany their Mac Mini or Mac Pro? “There are a number of great third-party options available for Mac users.”

Of course, there’s every chance that Apple has a new and improved display in the works – perhaps one with a 4K or 5K resolution to match its current iMac line, as well as the necessary Thunderbolt 3 support. But if that were so, why hasn’t it announced the replacement before today?
