HTC is going through a financial rough patch right now, so the company’s next smartphone needs to be a real winner.
Fortunately, we’re privy to a new leak about the much-rumoured HTC Aero, tipped to be HTC’s next flagship smartphone.
The first key bit of information is that it might not be called the HTC Aero after all.
We’ve heard a number of claimed monikers for HTC’s upcoming handset, including Aero and O2, but the final launch name for the project will reportedly be the HTC A9.
That’s according to tech site Mobile Dad (via Mobipicker), which claims it has access to insider information. Bear in mind that no specific source is cited, so we can’t verify this latest revelation.
The report also claims the device will run on MediaTek’s new top-end Helio X20 chipset, contrary to previous rumours that suggested the phone will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 processor.
The Helio X20 was unveiled back in May, and boasts a ludicrous 10 processor cores split into three clusters, as well as a 30% improvement to battery efficiency compared to conventional dual-cluster chips.
The article also suggests the HTC A9 will feature 2.5D curved glass, a full-metal chassis and two colour options – Tyrant Gold and Dark Grey.
Pricing is tipped to be around 3,000 to 4,000 Yuan (£299 to £399).

While we can’t say for sure what the HTC Aero will look like, we do know that it exists, at the very least.
That’s because back in June, HTC CEO Cher Wang said the company was preparing a ‘Hero’ smartphone to follow the HTC One M9 this year.
What’s more, it’s not going to be part of the One M series that we’ve grown used to.
