Video: Hendo Hoverboard put to the test by Tony Hawk
Stop dreaming of the future, it’s already here. Signifying this milestone in human existence is the hoverboard – and now skate legend Tony Hawk has been spotted riding one.
Following the recent unveiling of the Hendo Hoverboard – a futuristic contraption which uses powerful electromagnets to float inches above the ground – Hawk popped across to the company’s facility in San Jose to make Marty McFly green with envy.
Although having released a spoof hoverboard video earlier in the year, the skater-turn-video game star has now got to grips with the real deal.
“
Speaking with TMZ he added: “It would suddenly start moving and spinning when I had no control over it and there is absolutely no friction so it was a challenge.
“I only got to ride it for a total of about 15 minutes, but to be honest, it was a blast. I really want to go back and do it again.
“I would not say I was mastering it at all, but I learnt to ride it without falling every two seconds.”
The Hendo Hoverboard is currently seeking funding through Kickstarter. Having nearly doubled its $250,000 goal with 26 days of fundraising still to go, the Hendo will cost you a cool $10,000 to buy. For those after a quick play, a $100 pledge will secure you a five minute ride.
A metal sub straight in the company’s skate park flooring repels the hoverboard’s electromagnets, allowing the device to float.
As well as bringing Back to the Future style thrills, the technology has more practical applications and is similar to that found in Japan’s latest high-speed floating trains.
