Halo 3 is finally coming to the Master Chief Collection on PC next week

Halo 3 is set to land on PC as part of The Master Chief Collection, on July 14. The third installment in one of gaming’s most legendary franchises will be a welcome addition to any PC gamer’s library.

A new cinematic trailer on the Halo YouTube channel teased fans with the arrival of the game, which is just a handful of days away and provides a teasing glimpse at how the game has been enhanced for PC.

Notably, the game will also be included in the current Beta version of Xbox Game Pass for PC, so any subscribers will be able to play Halo 3 for free, as part of their subscription.

When we reviewed the original console release of The Master Chief Collection – way back in 2014 – we noticed that, actually, Halo 3 already looked pretty dated. That feedback in a 2014 review doesn’t bode too well for a 2020 re-release. Hopefully some work has been done on Halo 3, before it’s dished out to PC gamers.

Back when the collection hit Xbox One, our reviewer had this to say:

“Visually [Halo 3 is] now the least impressive game in the collection, too recent to be touched by high-resolution textures and effects, but too old to not look dated; a reminder that Bungie wouldn’t really master the Xbox 360 until its final Halo, Halo: Reach.

“Halo 3 is also sometimes too ambitious for its own good. It’s air-to-air and air-to-ground combat doesn’t really work, and any mission where you have to land a Hornet on the back of a Scarab and bring it down is an exercise in persistence, particularly when there are two scarabs involved and you don’t see fit to bung a mid-battle checkpoint in.

That said, all four games are considered classics and will still be entertaining today. We’re interested to see how well-received this release will be among PC gamers. We wouldn’t say no to Halo 3: ODST on PC, either.
