Galaxy S9 gets fresh software update as users report Samsung Pay issues

Samsung has rolled out a new software update for its brand new Galaxy S9 and S9+ smartphones.

The G960U1UEU1ARBG update improves the stability of the Face Unlock feature, which uses both iris and facial recognition to give users a more secure unlock method.

After some users reported camera crashes, the firm says it has improved the stability of the camera app too. The 287MB file can be downloaded over the air over Wi-Fi (via SlashGear).

Users will be glad to see the bugs squished so soon after the release of the flagship Android Oreo devices, which went on sale on March 11.

While the update addresses a couple of early flaws with a quickness, it doesn’t offer a fix for an emerging issue with Samsung Pay.

Those who bought unlocked versions of the S9 and S9+ are reporting the mobile payments platform is currently acting up.

The pre-loaded version of the app pushes users to the Play Store to upload an update, however, when users get there the app is listed as incompatible.

According to a SamMobile report, a Samsung customer care representative said those unlocked models “are experiencing issues with Samsung Pay” with an update planned soon.

It’s not clear yet whether the problem is at the phone’s end or whether it pertains to an issue with the Samsung Pay app itself.

It appears that US users are primarily affected but there are reports of Snapdragon and Exynos versions of the unlocked S9 handsets suffering from the flaw.

The company is yet to officially comment on the reports, but the issue is likely to come as a blow to early adopters keen to test of the new features.
