Fujifilm has announced a new high-end compact called the XF10, for those looking to take a step up from their smartphone camera.
Like its predecessor, Fujifilm’s X70, the XF10 combines a DSLR-style APS-C sensor with a fixed 18.5mm f/2.8 lens. The difference this time is that the sensor has 24 megapixels rather than 16 megapixels, which should give you more flexibility when cropping or printing photos.

A few control system changes suggest the XF10 is aimed more at the casual photographer, rather than the pros who saw the X70 as a more affordable version of the classic X100T.
There’s now no aperture ring on the lens or a hotshoe for a flash, although there is a new autofocus joystick for easily choosing your focus point. Fujifilm has also included an Instax-style “square mode” for cropping your snaps into an Instagram-friendly format.
The X70’s tilting screen has been replaced by a fixed 3-inch touchscreen, which probably rules it out as a vlogging camera, although the XF10 can shoot 1080p at an impressive 60fps (or 4K at a less impressive 15fps).

Overall, the XF10 is shaping up to be a more affordable, travel-friendly alternative to Fujifilm’s recent X-T100. You’ll be able to buy one for £449 from August 2018 and we’ll bring you a full review before then.
