CleverDrive helps you drive in a more eco-friendly way

Are you concerned about the emissions your car is giving off? CleverDrive can help.

It’s a system that analyses your driving behaviour and tells you how to drive in a more eco-friendly and fuel-efficient manner.

It consists of three parts: an app, an adapter that’s essentially a fitness tracker for your car, and a web portal for data analysis. Fit the adapter to your car, drive as normal, and it’ll give you a  full report on your habits and how you can drive in a more green way.

Not only will it benefit the environment, it should save you a few quid too, as you use less fuel.

Like a fitness tracker, the adapter talks to your phone over Bluetooth. It reads your speed, engine load, and tells you how you’re driving in terms of being environmentally friendly and fuel efficient. It calls this the Eco-Index. It’ll then tell you how to improve that, saving you up to 30 per cent on fuel, and reducing your carbon emissions.

Volkswagen could’ve done with it during its emissions tests.

It doubles as a location device, so you can find where you parked. And it tells you where fuel is cheap in your area.

It’s a good idea, but we can’t help but think it a little unnecessary. Surely basic guidelines like don’t accelerate hard and don’t go too fast will be enough to make your driving more eco-friendly. Do you really need readouts of every trip you take?

It’s just gone live on Kickstarter and is looking to raise €130,000. If successful, it’ll start shipping in April.
