New reports suggest Activision might be shutting out PS4 Share Play on Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.
The big bucks shooter is less than a week old, but it looks like it’s already set for controversy as some users are complaining gameplay footage is being censored.
Sony’s Share Play is a brand new feature for PS4, allowing two PS4 owners to play the same game over an internet connection, even if only one player has the game.
It’s limited to sixty minutes a session, which means the game host needs to restart the session again should you want to play for upwards of an hour.
Fortunately there’s no maximum daily sessions limit, which means you can play a game with a mate pretty much indefinitely.
While the feature was meant to be available on all games, Sony included a censorship feature that would allow a publisher to block portions of a game to stop spoilers being leaked through selected scenes.
What seems to have happened with Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare however, is that Activision may have censored the entire game.
Whether this is a mistake, intentional, or merely a bug remains to be seen, but we’ve contacted both Activision and Sony for comment.
Sony responded with the following: “Share Play is a system level feature enabled by System Software Updated 2.0 making it available for all PS4 titles, however the option is available to developers to disable the feature according to what they feel will best benefit the consumer experience.”
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is Activision’s latest FPS in the franchise. Produced by Sledgehammer Games, Advanced Warfare takes place in a possible near future that sees soldiers equipped with exoskeletons, laser blasters, and plenty of ammo to blast through AI enemies and online foes alike.
