BlackBerry 10 users receive Facebook and Twitter app updates

BlackBerry 10 users can now download the updated version of Facebook and Twitter for their BB10 smartphones for free.
Facebook version 10.0.1 and Twitter version 10.0.2 have been specially designed to enhance the social networking experience available on BB10 handsets like the BlackBerry Z10 or soon-to-launch BlackBerry Q10 with its full physical QWERTY keyboard.
“We’ve added some new features that make it easier for you to stay connected and do more with social media on your BlackBerry 10 smartphone,” said Donny H, blog manager for the Inside BlackBerry blog.
The BB10 OS was launched in January and was said to be the Canadian company’s make-or-break launch. With sales of the BlackBerry Z10 having reached 1 million units and BlackBerry posting a profit of $98 million (£65 million) for the last quarter, the new OS and its associated handsets could mean a change in fortune for the company.
The updates are available to download now for free from the BlackBerry World store and should bring the social networking apps in line with the current iOS and Android offerings.
Facebook Version 10.0.1 Features
BlackBerry 10 users can discover if their Facebook friends are in a neighbouring location with the Friends Nearby functionality, which will allow users to see if their contacts have checked in close to their current locale.
Photo updates are also included in the newest version of the Facebook app, allowing users to tag, share or save any photos on Facebook directly from within the app. Events have been upgraded too, with in-app access offering users the option to create, view and respond to events as well as inviting additional guests or posting post-event snaps to the event’s wall.
Increased accessibility options provides an easy way to share Facebook links to BBM, email, SMS, Twitter or LinkedIn accounts to name a few.
Twitter Version 10.0.2 Features
Twitter’s BB10 update introduces the Your Connect Tab for a collated view of all interactions, such as follows, mentions and favourites. The new version also gives a preview of any article, photograph or other update within the tweet itself, as well as showing how many times an individual tweet has been favourited.
