BlackBerry 10 update adds Z10 battery boost and camera enhancements

The first BlackBerry 10 update has gone live with the software patch helping improve the BlackBerry Z10 battery life whilst also bringing new camera enhancements.

Landing ahead of the imminent BlackBerry Z10 release date in the US, BlackBerry, formally known as RIM, has pushed out the first BlackBerry 10 with a selection of bug fixes and software improvements being introduced to the fledgling OS.

Rolling out across BlackBerry Z10 handsets now, currently the only device to run the BlackBerry 10 OS, the over-the-air BlackBerry 10 update sees more than 60 battery saving improvements introduced in a bid to help the Z10 keeping chugging along into a second day, an issue that has been one of the handset’s biggest stumbling blocks since launch.

As well as BlackBerry Z10 battery boosting improvements, the first BlackBerry 10 update has seen fixes introduced for the software’s phone, calendar and contacts syncing, meaning that Gmail calendars are afforded improved integration and the BlackBerry Hub has added new call logging features.

“Today we issued a software update for BlackBerry 10 smartphones that’s focused on your feedback,” an official BlackBerry spokesperson said of the software release. “It’s already available from some carriers and we’re working closely with all our carrier partners to get it to you as soon as possible.”

They added: “It’s almost been a month since we officially unveiled the new BlackBerry 10 smartphones and many of you already have a BlackBerry Z10 in hand. You’ve been using it for weeks, and we’ve been listening to your feedback, and have been working on an update just for you.”

With third party applications and the system’s browser and media aspects also coming in for bug fixing improvements, the 150MB download adds new camera enhancements to the iOS and Android operating systems, improving shooting in low-light conditions.

“We’ve optimized the camera for better photos in low-light situations. You’ll love the difference this makes for photos where you don’t use a flash – like the Time Shift Camera feature,” the Canadian handset manufacturer said.

Are you a BlackBerry Z10 owner, have you added the new BlackBerry 10 update? What fixes and features would you like to see added to the OS? Let us know via the TrustedReviews Twitter and Facebook feeds or through the comment boxes below.
