Beyond: Two Souls will feature Dual Mode co-op multiplayer

Quantic Dream has confirmed that Beyond: Two Souls will feature a co-op Dual Mode that will allow a second player to take control of Jodie or Aiden.

David Cage, Quantic Dream founder, has revealed gamers will be able to participate in two player co-op when playing through Beyond: Two Souls.

The second gamer can utilise the new Beyond Touch app for iOS and Android tablets or smartphones to take control of Aiden, the supernatural entity linked to Jodie.

The app removes all the buttons or on-screen joysticks that often feature in touchscreen games. Instead players will simply control Aiden using a blank touchscreen slate, sliding one finger around the screen to move the character in the game.

To make it a bit easier, Beyond: Two Souls automatically changes the game difficulty to easy for anyone using the touchscreen app as a controller.

The app will also allow gamers to control Aiden’s actions as well as movement to further immerse the second player into the Beyond: Two Souls experience.

Cage said the Dual Mode for Beyond: Two Souls was inspired by the way gamers said they played Heavy Rain. During the Gamescom presentation he said many people played through Heavy Rain with another person in the room, watching the story unfold.

Dual Mode for Beyond: Two Souls will allow the previously removed second player to become part of the story.

However, Cage also added that the touchscreen feature could also be a way to entice casual gamers who are more accustomed to playing mobile games.

More experienced console gamers can participate in the Beyond: Two Souls Dual Mode using a second DualShock 3 controller.

With any combination of device allowed in Dual Mode, Beyond: Two Souls could see both players using a tablet or smartphone to play, or a duo of DualShock 3 controllers.

Beyond: Two Souls will be available on October 11 for PS3 only.
