AppleCare+ iPhone accidental damage cover coming to Europe
Apple could be set to bring its AppleCare+ extended warranty service to Europe, setting millions of jittery iPhone owners at ease.
The AppleCare+ service doesn’t just cover against technical faults that develop in Apple devices within the first year of ownership, as per the standard AppleCare service that comes with every iPhone and iPad.
It extends that cover to two years – the standard length of an iPhone contract. Even more importantly, AppleCare+ covers two incidents of accidental damage (subject to a $49 service fee). Now consider how many long-time iPhone owners you know who haven’t cracked their screens or drowned their devices at some point, and you’ll see the appeal of this extended service.
Sadly, AppleCare+ has only been available in the US for the two years of its existence, but that’s all set to change according to French blog iGen.
Sources claim that Apple will bring the AppleCare+ service over to Europe soon. The site estimates that the $99 up front cost in the US will translate to a similar amount of euros.
Note that this is just for the AppleCare+ iPhone service. The report doesn’t if the iPad equivalent will be making its way to Europe at the same time.
Apple has had problems with its standard AppleCare plan on European soil in recent years, owing to the clash between its standard one year warranty and EU law, which requires two years of free basic coverage on consumer electronics.
Regardless of these issues, let’s hope that we see AppleCare+ on shelves in time for the launch of the iPhone 5S on September 10. After all, it doesn’t look like it’s going to be any tougher than the previous model.
