Apple now accepting Apple TV app submissions

Apple has begun accepting app submissions for its forthcoming revamped Apple TV.

Earlier in the week Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed that the new Apple TV would be available from next week, with pre-orders opening on Monday.

Apple’s new set-top-box runs on an operating system called tvOS, which is based on iOS 9. Thanks to this, the latest Apple TV will be able to run apps.

In order to supply those apps in time, Apple has announced that it is accepting Apple TV app submissions. It has also launched a new Developer web page that helps developers to prepare their Apple TV app submissions.

Here Apple provides guidance on how to utilise the new Apple TV Remote with its touch surface, accelerometer, and gyroscope inputs. It also runs through the ability to launch universal apps with linked iOS and tvOS versions, so once a customer downloads one, they have access to the other.

Apple also gives some tips on how to put together the app listing itself, along with advice on keywords, screenshots, naming, and more.

The new Apple TV will represent a great leap in power and functionality over older versions. It will be powered by the same A8 CPU found in the iPhone 6, and will come bundled with the aforementioned multi-input remote control.

It will cost $149 for the 32GB model, while the 64GB model will set you back $199.
