Google’s annual I/O developer conference is in full swing, and with it comes a smorgasbord of details of the company’s next mobile operating system.
The search engine giant spent plenty of time focusing on one particular detail of Android M, namely power management.
According to Dave Burke, Google’s VP of Engineering, it wants Android M “to be smarter about managing power.”
The first way it plans to do this is through a feature called “dozing”. What it does is power down your mobile device in an intelligent way when you’re not using it for extended periods of time.
Burke explains: “
According to the VP, in a comparison between Android Lollipop and M on a Nexus 9, the M-powered device lasted two times longer in standby.

Google also revealed that it is “heavily involved in creating a new USB Type C standard.”
USB Type-C is a new type of device connection that will eventually replace ports like USB 3.0 and Micro USB.
If that rings a bell, it’s because Apple recently opted to include the USB-C port on its new MacBook for 2015.
“
What’s special about USB-C is that it’s reversible, which means you can plug it in either way up, just like Apple’s Lightning connectors.
“No more grappling to find the right direction for the charging plug,” Burke said, speaking at today’s keynote.
Google is reportedly making a big push to get USB-C onto more Android devices, and is trying to get OEMs on board.
“We’ve been working with device manufacturers to bring Type C devices to the market with the M release,” said Burke, adding: “So that’s Type C, coming to a phone near you.”
