Amazon Echo UK release? Mysterious event invites sent to press
Amazon has invited press to a launch event, but neglected to say why. Could it be the UK launch of the Amazon Echo?
At 11:00 on Wednesday, September 14, Amazon is going to make an announcement in London. Unfortunately, we’ve got not idea what Amazon has in store for us – what gives, guys?
Here’s what you might expect to see…
Amazon Echo
The most obvious possibility is the UK launch of the Amazon Echo. Amazon’s voice-enabled wireless speaker launched in the US back in 2014, but there’s been no word on a UK launch.
We’d say this is the most likely announcement, because the invitation has a black background that fades gently upwards to a blue – the same blue that represents the Amazon Echo digital assistant, Alexa.
Amazon 4K Fire Stick
Amazon recently debuted a 4K set-top box in the form of its latest Amazon Fire TV. The obvious next step would be to show off a 4K Fire Stick too.
After all, 2016 has ushered in a wealth of 4K content, some of which is proffered by Amazon’s own Amazon Video streaming service. Gone are the days when you’d struggle to track down Ultra HD content. If Amazon could turn out a cheap 4K streamer before Christmas, it’d surely be a hit.
New Fire tablets
There’s also a chance we’ll see a refreshed Fire tablet line-up, bringing the series up to spec before the holidays. This is possibly the least exciting outcome, but it’s worth a mention.
Please, Amazon – just give us the Echo.
The Grand Tour
Last, but certainly not least, is The Grand Tour.
The world has waited with bated breath for Amazon’s new motoring TV series, starring former Top Gear hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May. The original release was pegged for August, but the series is now expected to air weekly from September to December this year.
With the launch of The Grand Tour now imminent, we’d be very surprised if Amazon didn’t lift the lid on a proper schedule very shortly. Perhaps this event could finally confirm The Grand Tour release date.
