It's just as well Asus isn't a boat, because if it was it would have sunk to the bottom of the sea long ago. Latest info to be leaked to us via a very reliable "source within Asus" is more news on the desktop edition of the Eee PC, the Eee Box, which we wrote about earlier in the year.

First things first, our source confirmed to us that pictures of the proposed Eee Box that were leaked before are the real deal, adding that it will be available in both the black and white versions. It's still difficult to know exactly how large these machines will be, but the lack - to our eyes - of integrated optical drives means they should be desk friendly sizes.

Other details remain sketchy, but one important piece of news our source did reveal is a ball park release schedule of "mid-July", adding that it "may" or "may not" - we're betting on the former - utilise Intel's Centrino Atom platform. Pricing is, regrettably, still educated guesswork but a sub-£300 price point seems reasonable, while we'd also imagine a similar SKU arrangement of Linux and Windows XP editions would be at hand.

So, there you have it; details remain elusive but with this proposed mid-July release something more concrete is bound to appear soon - did someone say Computex? We'll be covering the show, running from June 3rd to the 7th, so keep an eye out for more details then.
