This isn’t the first time Sony has had a beta period for the PS4’s firmware update, and it probably won’t be the last.
You can now sign up to the beta test the PS4’s 3.5 update, however, Sony is yet confirm what the update will include.
The fact that Sony wishes to beta test the update with consumers suggest that the update will be substantial, or possibly introduce some new features to the system.

Writing in Playstation Blog, Sony announced that the beta update will be available in early March, rolling out to the general public shortly afterwards.
Those who sign up for the beta will be emailed instructions on how to download the update along with the option to uninstall it whenever they like.
This once again suggests a substantial update, since players will be able to abandon the update altogether if need be.
Sony has also suggested that beta testers sign up to the Playstation Forums. This way the company can monitor feedback and reactions amongst players.
Hopefully the next update will finally let us change our Playstation ID.
