Will the refreshed MacBook Pro break free from Intel chips?

Apple is reportedly considering ditching Intel processors for the rumoured MacBook Pro refresh, thought to the coming next month.

According to reports, the hotly-anticipated machine could feature an AMD Zen APU.

According to Italian website bits and chips, Intel’s Kaby Lake and Coffee Lake units are not progressing as fast as hoped, prompting Apple to consider a different solution.

The report says, AMD may have been tapped to create a custom SoC design for the new MacBook Pro.

It is already thought AMD may leak the Polaris 10 GPU into the new MacBook so AMD could be doubling up here.

Recent reports suggest Apple will announce the new MacBook Pro in late October, after it was left out of September’s iPhone 7 announcement.

The laptop is rumoured to feature a touch-sensitive OLED panel to replace the current function keys.

It is also thought the company could ditch the MagSafe charging solution for USB-C, a la the 12-inch Retina MacBook.
