Virgin Media price hike: Here’s how much extra you’ll be paying

Virgin media has announced a nationwide price hike that’ll see some users TV packages go up by £3.49 a month.

The raise, which is the third this year, will see five million customers customers pay an average of 5.1 per cent more per month.

Customers are being notified by mail that line rental is also going up by £1.01 to £19 a month, while some broadband packages will also rise by up by £3 a month.

All in all, some Virgin Media customers will be paying £42 a year more to receive services from Richard Branson’s company.

Back in February, Virgin also upped the tariff on line rental and broadband for 4.4 million customers by an average of 4.2 per cent.

Then in July the firm was at it again when TV customers had to pay more to access Sky Sports and Sky Movies.

Virgin said its investments in broadband infrastructure and increased data usage of customers is causing the price hike.

“Our customers are doing more online than ever before - data usage continues to grow by 60% every year,” said Gregor McNeil of Virgin Media,

"At Virgin Media our customers are getting more: faster broadband, an upgraded TV service including a greater choice of box sets and the only place where you can watch all the live footballing action from both Sky and BT Sport in a single package.

“We do everything we can to keep prices competitive while striking the balance with investing in more of what our customers want.”

The third hike of 2016 wouldn't have anything to do with the development of that monstrosity of a 4K set-top box would it?

There are other choices. Corporation bottom line is money, dividends and payss for the executive. Shop around I say, cancel Virgin split phone, TV & broadband.

Virgin ignore you and treat you as a cash cow while you're with them, but when you try to leave suddenly you're their most important customer.

In the two years I was with them they called me once - I called them five times reporting network failures - when I left them they contacted me 7 times. A barrage of phone calls, text messages and emails. Even then their offerings were poor value. They slap line rental on to every contract whether you take it up or not.
