Virgin Media subscribers will soon have access to double the amount of on-demand content.
UKTV has just announced a deal that will give Virgin Media subscribers access to more than 10,000 hours of catch-up and box-set content. That will essentially double the amount of on-demand content available to Virgin customers.
It'll also represent the best access to UKTV content of any UK pay TV provider. If you're drawing a blank on UKTV, it's the broadcaster behind such repeat-heavy channels as Dave, W, Gold, Alibi, Yesterday, Drama, Really, Home, Eden and Good Food.
UKTV counts its hit programmes as Taskmaster, Nev Calling India, Quantico, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders, Only Fools & Horses and Sherlock, which offers a neat summary of the mixture of new and older content it has on its books.
As part of the deal, an updated UKTV Play app will be made available for the Virgin Media TiVo platform. This will provide an easy way to access all of that fresh catch-up and box-set programming.
Virgin Media customers will apparently be able to access this additional content "later this year."

Of course, what most forward-thinking Virgin Media customers will be wondering is when Virgin's response to Sky Q will be arriving. Last month the company confirmed that it was indeed preparing a 4K follow-up to its current TiVo box.
All we know is that this Ultra HD TV service will be coming "later this year" (there's that vague phrase again), and that we can look forward to a new image-focused UI for the existing TiVo box in the meantime.
