Microsoft has released a new firmware update for Xbox One S that adds a range of new blu-ray features.
Mike Ybarra confirmed the new features in a recent tweet following the update’s release.
Support for BD-R and BD-RE discs is a small yet handy addition. Those hoping to play their own personal collection of recorded blu-rays shouldn’t have any problems with Xbox One S from now on.
In addition, Microsoft announced at a recent event that the console will be patched to support Dolby Atmos and bitstream audio-pass through in a future update.
Microsoft confirmed this week that Project Scorpio will support Xbox 360 backwards compatibility when it launches in 2017. We’re guessing all the titles compatible with Xbox One will transfer over automatically.
Xbox One S launched earlier this year, replacing the standard model with a smaller form factor and increased hard drive space.

We gave the console an excellent 8/10 in our full review:
“The Xbox One S is far better than the original Xbox One, with improvements on every front. It’s smaller, it’s prettier and it includes a greater number of features. Sure, the gaming element is almost unchanged, but HDR gaming compatibility means at least a degree of future-proofing. Then there's the 4K output: although it's upscaled, rather than native, right now this is the best you'll get from a console.”
