Philips has announced a brand new, redesigned mobile app for its Hue smart lighting platform.
The gen 2 app, which is available on iOS and Android from today, offers a number of new and improved features to help customise the in-home atmosphere.
First up is the new Routines feature, which enables users to set lighting schedules to match up with their day to day activities.
Users will be able configure the app wake up with a natural increase in brightness, while those working from home may appreciate the white light recipes to help them focus. In the evenings it’ll help Smart Home adopters unwind with lower light settings.

There’s even a new Nightlight recipe for those with young children, which minimises exposure to blue light meaning less disruption to the sleep cycle.
The second new feature is Rooms, which enables users to group all lights in specific area at the same time. This also integrates nicely with voice commands ‘like set the living room to 10 per cent.’
The Scenes feature makes it easier to recreate the colour palette of a white from your smartphones. If users are lacking inspirational photos on their smartphones there are a few preset scenes to try.
There’s a new Widgets feature that offers access from the drop down menus, while the Home & Away feature enables Hue owners to turn the lights on or off when they’re away from home.
The new homescreen dashboard also offers a snapshot of all the lights in the room, enabling users to turn them all on or dim with a single swipe.
