OnePlus X set to launch 29 October

Days after a mysterious new OnePlus handset showed up in an FCC listing, OnePlus has confirmed that it will be launching a third smartphone on 29 October.

We’ve known that a third OnePlus smartphone was in the works for some time now, but there’s been much speculation surrounding what it might entail.

Earlier predictions of a OnePlus Mini may be wide of the mark, however, as the aforementioned FCC listing revealed another 5.5in device. It also offered a glimpse at the rear of the device, which bore a certain resemblance to Apple’s iconic iPhone 4 design.

Now OnePlus has taken to Twitter with the message: “See you October 29, London.” This is accompanied by the above image of a large X.

Meanwhile, a blog post over on the company’s Chinese website confirms (via Google Translate) that the “third paragraph” in the company’s story will be announced in a related Beijing event on 29 October. The new device is here referred to as the OnePlus X.

Besides offering the same-sized screen as both previous OnePlus phones, the aforementioned FCC filing mentioned that the OnePlus X would be powered by a 1.9GHz processor. It also mentioned that it would ship with LTE, Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi, and FM radios, which is to be expected really.

October has been a busy month for OnePlus. On Monday, it announced  plans to start producing handsets in India through a partnership with Foxconn.

Which is all fine and dandy, but we suspect that most OnePlus 2 customers will simply want to know when they’re getting their handsets.
