The Nexus 6P bends under pressure – the latest example of YouTube idiocy

Nexus 6P bend
Exhibit A: Bent smartphones | Culprit: Basic physics

Science has long known this to be a truth: when you apply enough pressure to an object, it will bend or shatter.

So it seems amazing that so many people have been unsettled by another video that shows the Nexus 6P bending under pressure.

YouTube users JerryRigEverything, who has built a name off the back of destroying gadgets on camera, has now destroyed his second Nexus 6P.

He hit headlines last week after he snapped his first handset in half, after both burning it and slicing it with a razor.

In his new video – titled ‘Nexus 6P is a joke! Round TWO – Why does it bend?’ – JerryRigEverything once again proceeds to bend a Nexus 6P, albeit this time with a fresh-out-the-box model.

As you can see, JerryRigEverything forcefully caves his phone in, and then revels in the fact that he’s holding a broken $499 smartphone.

The main problem with this “test” is that there’s no objective way of measuring how much pressure JerryRigEverything applied with his hands.

For a real comparison of structural integrity, we’d need to see an actual pressure rig created and use multiple times across a range of different handsets.

So what can we learn from this? Don’t intentionally bend your brand new smartphone, folks.
