Mozilla has expanded the Firefox OS smartphone with a little help from Alcatel and ZTE.

During its MWC 2014 press conference, Mozilla announced that there will be six new Firefox devices launching in the near future, including the first LTE Firefox OS smartphone.

The Alcatel Fire C, Alcatel Fire S, Alcatel Fire E, ZTE Open 2 and ZTE Open C are all new Firefox OS smartphones, while the Alcatel Fire 7 is the first Firefox tablet.

“We’re pleased to see the Firefox OS ecosystem grow so quickly as users, developers and partners come together to experience and build the future of mobile experiences,” said Andreas Gal, Mozilla Vice President of Mobile. “Firefox OS will continue to mature and add more features to offer choice and customisation that is unmatched by any other smartphone. We’re excited to see what other features and services will result from an open platform being contributed to by developers, partners and community around the world.”

All six of the new Firefox OS devices run on Qualcomm Snapdragon processors, but of all of the new devices, the Alcatel Fire S is the most impressive.

The Alcatel Fire S features a 4.5-inch qHD display running on a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor. It has an 8-megapixel rear camera capable of shooting 1080p full HD video and has a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. Along with offering NFC, the Fire S is the first Firefox OS device to support 4G LTE connectivity.

The Fire 7 tablet is only a concept for now, but featured 7-inch qHD display powered by a dual-core 1.2GHz. It also has a pair of VGA cameras and isn’t expected to be available until autumn.
