Huawei Ascend P2 quad-core Android handset unveiled as ‘world’s fastest smartphone’

The Huawei Ascend P2 has been officially unveiled, with the Chinese manufacturer taking to MWC 2013 to announce its latest quad-core Android device.

A new flagship model with a 13-megapixel camera in tow, the Huawei Ascend P2 see’s Google’s Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean OS paired with a bevy of premium innards as Huawei looks to cement itself as a true rival to the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S3 and Google Nexus 4.

“Today we will announce the successor to the Huawei Ascend P1, the Huawei Ascend P2. This is the world’s fastest smartphone,” Richard  Yu, CEO of Huawei’s consumer group said. “This is the first smartphone in the world to support LTE CAT4, making it the fastest to access the internet.”

Lining up at just 8.4mm thick, the Huawei Ascend P2 is a stylish addition to the mass ranks of Android smartphones, with a selection of high-end components helping separate the device from the manufacturer’s past, more affordable, lower-specced offerings.

Playing host to a 1.5GHz quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM, the zippy Huawei Ascend P2 will sit alongside its CES 2013 unveiled sibling, the Huawei Ascend D2, as the company’s more specs impressive smartphone offerings. Unlike the D2, however, the Huawei Ascend P2 does note feature a 1080p Full HD display.

Building on Google’s Android Jelly Bean OS with the company’s own Huawei Emotion 1.6 UI, the Huawei Ascend P2 offerings a smooth, simply and sophisticated user experience with the device set to capitalise on the full selection of Android apps available through the Google Play Store.

With an expansive 4.7-inch multi-touch touchscreen display wrapped within the handset’s predominantly plastic construction, the Huawei Ascend P2 features a 720p HD resolution, offering impressive visuals from the off. With a 351 pixels-per-inch image density, the Huawei Ascend P2 screen is bolstered by a 500 nits brightness rating, an impressive 1000:1 contrast ratio and a protective Corning Gorilla Glass 2 coating.

Despite featuring just 16GB of Internal storage, the latest Android offering from Huawei plays host to a 2420mAh battery which should provide ample juice to get users through are full days heavy use without worry of needing to find a charger.

Set to be made available in both black and white colour schemes, the Huawei Ascend P2 features a 13-megapixel rear-mounted camera with the premium snapper further benefitting from HDR  and super zoom capabilities, as well as face recognition and 1080p Full HD video recording capabilities.

With 4G LTE innards, the Huawei Ascend P2 connectivity options are further enhanced by the integrated Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC offerings.

Huawei Ascend P2 Release Date and Price

Although Huawei has formally unveiled the Huawei Ascend P2, the Chinese manufacturer has as yet failed to confirm a precise Huawei Ascend P2 UK release date, instead revealing the device will touch down in “Q2 2013.”

In keeping with the company’s competitive pricing strategy, Huawei has revealed that the Huawei Ascend P2 price will be set at 399 Euros (£345) in Europe. A finalised Huawei Ascend P2 UK price is to follow shortly.
