HTC has officially announced the HTC Desire 300, an entry-level Android phone that has the latest version of the HTC Sense interface.

The Desire 300 is HTC's “most affordable” phone for the UK in 2013, gunning for those after a phone with a dirt cheap contract, or no contract at all.

Pictures of the phone itself were not available at the time of writing, but it is a plastic phone with a slightly lower-end design than the Desire 601. We'll add a photo when one becomes available.

HTC Desire 300 specs
It has the specs to match its price aspirations. The HTC Desire 300 has a generous-sized 4.3-inch screen, but its WVGA resolution reveals that it's a budget device. This display is much lower-res than the 4.3-inch 720p screen of the HTC One Mini. As a result, teeny text won't appear super-smooth.

The HTC Desire 300's CPU and RAM are conservative too. It has a dual-core 1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM.

Funnily enough, many of the Desire 300's specs sound similar to those of the original HTC Desire, which was one of the top Android phones of 2010. These include the 1GHz clock speed and the 5-megapixel camera resolution.

This is not an out-of-date phone, though. The HTC Desire 300 runs the same generation of HTC Sense interface as the HTC One and HTC One Mini.

As such, you get access to the BlinkFeed home screen, which aggregates updates from your favourite online sources, whether they are social networks or websites. HTC also made Sense look more sophisticated and minimalist in this latest version.

HTC Desire series

That HTC says the Desire 300 will be HTC's most affordable phone suggests the company has no plans for a wide release of the Desire 200 in the UK.

The HTC Desire 200 was officially launched in June 2013, and has a smaller 3.5-inch screen and 1GHz processor.

Price details on the HTC Desire 300 from UK networks are expected to be revealed shortly.
