HP could be making a giant Windows 10 phone

HP could be planning a return to the smartphone market with a new 5.8-inch Windows 10 handset.

The PC giant left the smartphone market way back in 2011 when its failed to establish webOS (formerly of Palm, which HP acquired in 2010) as a viable Android and iOS alternative.

However, it could be set to return as a third party Windows 10 Mobile hardware producer.

According to German website Drwindows (via PocketNow), the HP Falcon will be a giant 5.8-inch Windows 10 phablet with a 2560 x 1440 QHD display. It'll be powered by a Snapdragon 820 CPU and 3GB of RAM, and will have a choice of 32GB or 64GB of internal storage.

Apparently we'll be looking at a 20-megapixel rear camera and a 12-megapixel front-facing camera.

The source claims that HP is testing the Falcon internally, and that there's been no decision as to whether or not there'll be a commercial launch for the phone as yet. If HP does go with a launch, though, there's a chance we could see the Falcon at MWC 2016 towards the end of February.

No, it's not the HP Pre 4 that a very specific type of smartphone fan will have been dreaming of (LG bought webOS off HP in early 2013 for use in its TVs), but it would be good to see another manufacturer supporting Windows 10 Mobile at least.

I've seen a lot of rumors of HP phones, all with varying specs and screen sizes. I hope HP releases at least one of the rumored phones.

That is doubtless exactly what they will do - release one.

Then they will lose interest, can the project, change their CEO, and forget about their erstwhile customers.

"Falcon" EE will be gutted that they didn't register the name.
