A raft of GTA 5 problems have emerged following the game’s formal release last week, with latest issues seeing gamers attempting to play GTA 5 on older Xbox 360 consoles experiencing "crash errors".
According to members of the unofficial GTAforums, users playing GTA 5 on Xbox 360s manufactured or refurbished between 2006 and 2008 are seeing their consoles freeze or crash completely.
The issues apparently occur when attempting to complete the first mission where you drive around as Franklin, but can happen at any point during the mission and entirely at random.
"There is no precursor for the game locking up," complains one gamer. "It appears to happen completely randomly and at different times during the mission."
Rockstar Games' technical support told the GTAforums user that "they are still in the process of gathering data and trying to determine if this is something that is patchable."
Xbox technical support on the other hand told users to follow a specific set of instructions that many users have found to cure the problem.
First, delete all GTA 5 game data, then clear the system cache three times. Users must then delete any marketplace data from their storage system items and unplug the console for three minutes thereafter.
They must then install the first disc of the game, and power off without inserting disc 2. Following that, gamers can restart their console, insert the second disc and play.
During launch week, those attempting to play the digital PS3 edition of GTA 5 were also experiencing streaming issues and severe lag.
Available to download from the PSN, the GTA 5 PS3 digital copy has been found to be plagued with streaming problems, with the expansive in-game world proving too large and detailed to be digitally replicated in real-time.
According to tests by Digital Foundry, “the Blu-ray version has clear advantages that make it the preferred buy," with issues include: “ground textures popping in half a second late - plus delays in the drawing of shadow maps and objects like grass"
Further discussion the GTA 5 problems, they added: "In one case we see an entire skyscraper fizzle in and out of sight, while buildings to either side struggle to update their textures. Our many hours of disc-based testing produced nothing like this."
Far from the only GTA 5 problems to have been surface since the game’s arrival, Rockstar has already started offering fixes to a number of GTA 5 problems which have surfaced, including a range of bugs and freezing issues.
With more than 1.57 million copies of GTA 5 having been sold in the UK alone in the game's opening 24 hours on sale, Rockstar has been forced to deal with the inevitable issues and gripes, updating its GTA 5 technical support page to respond to a range of GTA 5 problems.
With gamers complaining of everything from loading issues to in-mission glitches and the looping of already completed missions, Rockstar has responded to a range of GTA 5 problems with handy, walkthrough guides on how to amend the issues.
Examples of reported GTA 5 problems and resolutions include the following response to the question: “I'm trying to install the install disc and it just freezes so I can't play. How can I fix this so I can install and play?”
Rockstar responded: “If you are having problems with frozen installs or error messages while the install disc, delete any GTA V install data that is on the Xbox 360 storage device.”
The company added: “Clear the Xbox 360 Cache: System Settings->Storage->Highlight Storage Device and Press Y->Choose Clear Cache->Confirm. Re-attempt the installation.
“If you are still experiencing the error, please try installing to a different memory device. If the problem persists for all memory devices, please try the disc in another console to confirm whether the disc or the console is the issue.”
With the listed solutions to a number of GTA 5 problems seeing Rockstar “recommend loading a previous save,” answers to the gaming issues are not always elegant or particularly helpful.
