Google Calendar iOS update adds Android features

Google has announced an update to the Google Calendar iOS app that adds a number of features formerly reserved for the Android version.

The Google Calendar iOS app was only launched in March of this year, but the company has been fairly quick issuing its first major update.

Over on the Official Gmail Blog, Google has outlined the improvements made – all of which are in line with the Android app.

First up, Google points out that you can now see more events at a glance with seven-day week view. You can also now customise your calendar with week numbers.

Perhaps the biggest addition, though, is the ability to hook up to the Google Drive app. You can now add files from Google’s cloud storage service to Google Calendar entries – think Docs and Sheets documents, pictures, and PDFs.

Like on Android, Google Drive will even check if everyone has access to the files and if not, ask you if you’d like to share with them.

Google has also added interactive notifications to the iOS Google Calendar app. This will allow you to email contacts linked to an event reminder directly from the notification, or even jump to directions in Maps if a location is involved.

All in all, it’s a solid update that brings some welcome Android-level functionality to the iOS Google Calendar app. The update should be rolling out now.
