Gold iPhone 5S ‘confirmed’ for September 10 launch in new reports

A gold-toned iPhone 5S will indeed be part of Apple’s launch event next month, new reports on Monday have claimed.

Following speculation at the back end of last week, the well-connected AllThingsD blog has confirmation from ‘sources in a position to know’ that Apple will add a third colour option to its iPhone line.

The sources told the WSJ-owned tech blog will have an “elegant” gold tone and said to “think champagne, not ingot.”

The insider also claimed the gold iPhone will have a white face and white accents on the top and bottom of the rear.

The gold iPhone will join the black and white iterations of the device already available.

AllThingsD’s report said: “As others have noted, gold tones are among the easiest colours to anodize, so technologically it’s an easy option to offer. It adds a bit of flash to an otherwise staid colour palette that hasn’t changed in a number of years. It’s an obvious differentiator between the current iPhone 5 and whatever its successor ends up being called.”

Apple’s rumoured decision to broaden its colour scheme comes with speculation there may not be much else that’s new, within the iPhone 5S.

Could the addition of a gold option be a way for Apple to draw attention away from what’s expected to be an incremental iPhone update? It seems we’ll find out for sure on September 10.
