The books from the hugely popular A Song of Ice and Fire series – better known as Game of Thrones – will be re-released by Apple on iBooks.

George RR Martin, the author of the series announced the new digital copies, hailing them as an “an amazing next step in the world of books”. HarperCollins, the publisher of the series added that the interactive editions will have a “world of additional content”.

The updates will give the books new interactive features including character maps, glossaries and annotations. What’s more, each digital edition will include an excerpt from Winds of Winter, the next book in A Song of Ice and Fire.

While the existing books are being re-released, fans of the series are still waiting on news of the next book Winds of Winter. Earlier this year, Martin revealed he had not finished the book and didn’t have a release date for eager fans. As a result of the slow releases the HBO TV adaptation of the novels is now going to come to a different conclusion than the books it’s based on.
