Facebook has announced a new Music Stories feature for its iPhone app, which will enable users to listen to 30-second previews of shared songs or albums.
When a link is shared from Apple Music, iTunes or Spotify, Facebook app patrons will be able to stream half a minute of audio right from the post.
Those seeking more will be able to click the Spotify links to listen to the entire song, or simply select ‘add to library’ without leaving Facebook.
In the case of Apple’s service, folks will need to click through to listen in full, add to a library or purchase from iTunes.
Facebook says it is bringing more compatibility with more streaming services too.
The addition of Music Stories, which will be available exclusively on iOS for now represents a brand “new post format” for Facebook.
“We hope by making this experience better, artists will share more, friends will share and engage more, and music will become a better part of the Facebook experience overall,” product director Michael Cerda wrote on the Facebook media blog.
