Facebook hits 1bn daily users, almost half are now mobile-only

Facebook has announced more than one billion people are now using the service every day.

During its quarterly earnings call on Wednesday, the firm revealed it is currently averaging 1.01bn daily users. The firm also confirmed another surpassed landmark, with 1.5 billion active users logging on every month.

Interesting, Facebook is also approaching official status as a mobile first company. While strategy has suggested a leaning towards mobile for quite some time, the social empire now says 727m of its 1.55bn actives are only accessing the service on mobile devices.

That figure represents 47 per cent of the overall user base and is up significantly from the 655m mobile-only users it counted back in July.

Even more startlingly, these figures don’t count the number of Instagram and WhatsApp users which are overwhelmingly mobile-centric applications with only token web presences.

During the earnings call, Facebook reported $4.5 billion in revenue, with profits of $1.46 billion and earnings of $0.57 per share. This allowed the company to beat out those all-important Wall Street expectations.

On that note, it’s little surprise Facebook is pushing all of its new features to mobile first, considering 78 per cent of all the advertising income it generates is coming via mobile.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg said: ”We had a good quarter and got a lot done. We’re focused on innovating and investing for the long term to serve our community and connect the entire world.”
