Epson Pulsene PS-500 fitness tracker is yet another wrist wearable

Epson has entered the fitness tracking market, with the printer specialist launching its first wrist-mounted wearable in the form of the Epson Pulsense PS-500.

One of a pair of wrist-based fitness trackers from the company, the Epson Pulsense PS-500 is the watch-themed big brother to the more basic Epson Pulsense PS-100 wrist band, a device which itself will wirelessly communicate with your smartphone to relay performance data.

The Pulsense product line will be Epson’s first smart wrist wearable devices to leverage the company’s patented Bio sensing technology,” Anna Jen, Director of New Ventures/New Products for Epson America said.

She added: “These products showcase Seiko Epson’s heritage in wrist watch technology and consumer electronics manufacturing. To track progress over time, the data you capture and store using Pulsense can be transferred to an online health and/or fitness service using an iOS or Android mobile app or data uploader software on your computer.”

Epson Pulsense PS-500 Features
More than a glorified pedometer, the Epson Pulsense PS-500 is shaping up as a full blown fitness tracker, with an integrated heart rate monitor allowing users to receive instant feedback on their personal vitals, direct to their wrist.

As well as offering heart rate data, this sensor can be used to provide more accurate fitness tracking, allowing the Pulsense to be more precise in its calorie burn feedback.

Pairing the heart rate monitor with the usual collection of integrated accelerometers, and motion sensors, the fitness tracker also benefits from Epson’s three-in-one proprietary chipset for speedy processing on the fly. The device hosts low power Bluetooth support to communicate with your smartphone or tablet.

What’s more, in a bid to help reduce this reliance on smartphones, the Epson Pulsense PS-500  can store up to 480 hours of heart-rate data directly onto the device’s in-built memory before needing to be synced to a parent device.

With an LCD display, the Epson Pulsense PS-500 is capable of relaying all manner of data metrics direct to your wrist, with heart rate, distance travelled, date, time and calories burned all able to be displayed.

Epson Pulsense PS-500 Release Date and Price
Heading to the US this summer alongside a $199 price tag (£121) price tag, there is currently no word on when, or indeed if, the Epson Pulsense PS-500 will be launched in the UK.
