Doom reaches 200 frames per second on Nvidia GTX 1080

Footage has surfaced online of Doom reaching 200 frames per second with Nivida’s new GTX 1080 graphics card with the Vulkan API.

Doom developer id Software said during the presentation that an update to support Vulkan API – a bit of back-end tech which will make it easier for developers to create more powerful games available on more devices and platforms – will be available soon after the game’s May 13 launch.

The footage was captured by PC Gamer, and as you can see, the gameplay starts with a locked framerate of 60 FPS, before the developers unlock and it then shoots up to around 150, before peaking at 200.

Although, of course, you won’t be able to tell the game is running at these incredibly high framerates, a frame counter in the upper right corner will tell you just how fast the game is performing.

Doom is already a twitch-based, incredibly action packed shooter to begin with, but adding so many more frames should only up the intensity even more.

Doom is set to launch on May 13 on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
