A “very awesome” new Overwatch hero has entered testing, Blizzard confirms

Blizzard Entertainment confirmed in a recent developer update that a new Overwatch hero has entered internal testing at the studio.

Game Director Jeff Kaplan greeted fans with plenty of exciting news in his New Year’s developer update, teasing upcoming maps, skins and more for the popular shooter.

Fans love anything that leads to the discussion of a new hero, and Kaplan was happy to provide a few clues. Hero 27 is said to be “very awesome” and “very needed.”

No release window was provided but considering internal testing is already underway, we can likely expect a reveal in the coming weeks and months.

Kaplan also touched upon upcoming season events including Lunar New Year and Uprising, both of which will incorporate temporary modes and new cosmetic unlocks for your favourite heroes.

Overwatch will also see the addition of new skins, sprays and other unlockables outside of the seasonal specials, giving players further incentive to play outside of them.

Players have voiced their demand for new modes of progression outside of competitive modes and seasonal events for some time, and this seems like a positive step in the right direction.
