Assassin’s Creed Freedom Cry will launch on the PS4, PS3 and PC later this month.

Ubisoft has announced that Assassin’s Creed Freedom Cry will launch as a standalone game for PS4 and PS3 on February 19. It will then be launched for PC on February 25.

The Freedom Cry title was originally released as add-on DLC content for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag but will now be available as a standalone game.

This means you will not be required to buy AC4: Black Flag in order to play Freedom Cry.

It seems from the announcement trailer included below, this standalone version will be a PlayStation exclusive, and will not come to Xbox One or Xbox 360.

The announcement is probably an attempt to entice you to buy the full game though, as the Freedom Cry is technically reliant on the AC4 engine and gameplay style.

Assassin’s Creed Freedom Cry tells the story of Adewale, the old first mate of AC4’s hero Edward Kenway, who is now a fully-fledged Assassin and captain of his own ship.

The storyline sees Adewale fight for freedom from slavery, but sees himself drawn further into the Maroon slave community. You must then accompany him as his faces his “vicious past”.

“In the game, Adewale will take his new crew and set of weapons, including a machete and a blunderbuss, to assassinate enemies and free slaves, delivering merciless justice in plantations and cities alike”, explains Ubisoft.

There’s no word on pricing for Assassin’s Creed Freedom Cry as yet, but it will only be available as a digital download.
