It’s very rare to find a game that has a feel quite unlike anything else available on the platform, but we can say this about Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP for iPhone. It’s odd, it’s artistic and it’s a sensory experience in a manner most games aren’t.
But what is it? Well, it’s a kinda point ‘n’ click adventure in the old-school 90s vein, but such a tag doesn’t come close to capturing what’s special about this game. The pixel art and atmospheric audio are both enchanting and entrancing, sucking you into the odd world quicker than a scrap of paper vacuumed by a Dyson hoover. You’re given little clue as to what’s going on at the start, ensuring your own journey through the game parallels that of the character.
The game works best with an iPad, where the extra screen space makes play much more comfortable, but it’s absolutely worth checking out if you’re rocking an iPhone or iPod Touch too. Sword & Sworcery comes in two flavours these days, an iPhone-only version or a universal app with iPad and iPhone 4 optimisation
An unusual and entrancing adventure, anyone with an iOS device and a fondness for old-school games needs to check this out.
