What is the Samsung Xpress M2875FD?
Samsung makes a lot of laser printers and all-in-ones, for itself and as a contractor to companies including Dell. The Samsung Xpress M2875FD is one it markets itself and as the suffixes suggest, it has fax facilities and duplex print built in. It’s aimed at the home office, though it would work as well in a small office.
Samsung Xpress M2875FD – Design and Features
The Samsung Xpress M2875FD is surprisingly small, both in its footprint and height. The dark grey top, almost black but with a touch of brown to the plastic, is full of wide radius curves, which soften the machine’s look. The 40-sheet Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) fits neatly on top and the lid hinges extend for scanning books and magazines.
The control panel is well laid out with action buttons at the right-hand end and fax number pad, navigation ring and illuminated mode buttons as you move left. Then comes a two-line LCD panel and at the extreme left-hand end are four special-function keys. These offer an ID card copy, fast control of copy darkness and enlargement and a single button eco-mode.
Samsung has won prizes for its eco-mode presentation, which is tied in with the driver and shows at a glance the cost and environmental savings made by using eco-print, duplex and multiple pages per sheet.
Paper exits from the Samsung Xpress M2875FD just below the control panel and further down the front is a 250-sheet paper tray, with a click-open cover to a single sheet, multi-purpose slot just above.
Samsung Xpress M2875FD – Connections and Installation
At the back are sockets for USB and 10/100 Ethernet connections, as well as for phone line and third-party handset. There’s no wireless provision on this machine, though if you need it, the Xpress M2875FW, at an extra £25, includes this.
As well as the well-designed printer driver, Samsung provides OCR software for the scanner. The drum and toner cartridge is a two-part component and toner cartridges which clip into the drum assembly are available in two yields, of 1,200 and 3,000 pages.
