The inner layer is silicone, cushioning around the iPhone. The outer layer, made from polycarbonate, has the dual purpose of absorbing impact from any knocks and making the device easy to slide in and out of a pocket or a bag.
The Commuter case allows easy access to all buttons and controls on the exterior of the case and has a flap to stop dirt getting into the charging port.
